Knowsley Art Lodge

Top Trumps

Barry Worrall is working with 10 adults who have a learning disability and their support workers to research and respond to the work of the Royal Art Lodge, a collective of artists based in Winnipeg, Canada.  Some of the group from Halewood Resource Centre have been involved with the Liverpool Biennial in previous years. They are supporting others from Halewood plus people from Astley House and Vocational Support Services who are new to working with the Bluecoat and the Liverpool Biennial.  Together they have undertaken an enquiry, looking at and responding to the work of the Royal Art Lodge. The group have embraced Royal Art Lodge’s surreal, dream-like landscapes and collaborative working practice. They have created their own consequence game, drawing a head and passing it to their neighbour to add on the body. Barry adapted their drawings to create a top trumps game.

song

This is a montage of the group writing a song, with Kieran and Barry performing it and everybody joining in. We looked at the stories and the paintings and wrote 3 verses and a chorus that went “we love the royal art lodge” everybody had a great time playing and singing the song we also played it to the RAL and they looked pleased and said it was a nice surprise.

Big Paintings

big paintings

The group created huge paintings using the data projector, tracing round RAL images we found on their website www.royalartlodge.com. Everybody helped paint the traced images. We used charcoal pencils to draw the outlines and acrylic and poster paints to create the paintings, the following week the group created a large scale picture of a carousel or bobby horses from there own RAL inspired series of paintings.
