Making It Up is an opportunity for six young people to showcase their own film in the context of Liverpool Biennial 2008.

We are looking to create a small team of dynamic documentary filmmakers, who will work collaboratively to devise and produce a 20 minute long film to document a ‘behind the scenes’ account of Liverpool Biennial 2008.

Liverpool Biennial is delighted to announce the launch of the Made Up in Liverpool young persons' film festival. Working in collaboration with FACT, Liverpool Biennial is making a call for young filmmakers to respond to the theme MADE UP – so if you’re aged between 12 and 19 we would love to see your film that focuses on myths, lies, story telling or imaginary worlds.

Liverpool Biennial is delighted to announce that the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation
will support a series of new commissions by European artists over a three-year period.
The award for the Gulbenkian European Commissions begins in 2008, Liverpool’s year
as European Capital of Culture, and continues until 2010.

For their project titled One Year in Liverpool, part of the Visible Virals project, Stockholm artists collective AAPE are investigating the concept of ‘the average Liverpudlian’ through their life, behaviour and consumer habits.

In its 50th year, the 2008 exhibition promises to be more of a revelation than ever with artists Jake and Dinos Chapman taking part as jurors, alongside art critic Sacha Craddock and artists Paul Morrison and Graham Crowley, both former John Moores prize-winners. The judging will take place throughout 2008 and will result in an exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery from 20 September 2008 to 4 January 2009.

Liverpool Biennial in collaboration with John Moores University are hosting Shrinking Cities: Interventions at Site Gallery, an exhibition which aims to present models of action. The projects range from artistic interventions and self-empowerment strategies through architectural, landscape, media, and performance interventions all the way to new legal regulations and utopian visions.

The fifth edition of Liverpool Biennial will open on 20 September 2008, with previews for press and arts professionals and private views taking place on 18-19 September. Celebrating the tenth anniversary of its foundation by James Moores, this Biennial will be even more impressive in scale and ambition than its predecessors, and will be one of the highlights of Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture 2008.

The award honours Liverpool Biennial’s success in commissioning international artists to make work in Liverpool that challenges, surprises and delights its audiences while attracting attention from around the country and the world.

Following the success of Animal, the Winter Lights project for 2006, internationally renowned French artist Franck Scurti was commissioned to propose a second series of amazing new Winter Lights and has created a Liverpool Jackpot for Kirkdale, Kensington and Garston.

Liverpool Biennial has approached Tomas Harold, Director and Curator of Liverpool based collective Mercy, to help select five Liverpool based artists for a two-week workshop in Tripoli, Libya.

A group of local freelance artists are the latest addition to the Liverpool Biennial team. The pool pool is comprised of experienced educators, who work across a variety of artistic disciplines and practices. They have come on board to support the Learning and Inclusion team to provide an extensive programme of workshops, courses and events for schools, young people, communities and specialist audiences.

This third seminar in the New Networks series co-hosted by Liverpool Biennial and Tate Liverpool aims to explore the collaboration between artists, curators, critics and institutions in the regions of West Africa, focusing in particular on the impact of international events such as the Dakar Biennale.
