Frances Disley is a multidisciplinary artist based in Liverpool. Though her work often features printmaking, Disley also explores performance, film, and sculpture in her practice. She allows her body to animate the crude painted objects and surfaces she creates, breathing life into them. She seeks to expose the thought processes of herself and other artists when wrestling with form and colour, creating intriguing pieces that stimulate the viewer to look closer at the work and themselves.

Frances Disley was one of three artists invited to transform a double decker bus for Liverpool Biennial 2016. The striking vehicles could be seen throughout Merseyside, following routes through North and South Liverpool, Liverpool City Centre, and the Wirral. Disley’s bus Blaze was inspired by Enice Huthart; a true Liverpool success story as the only contestant on the 1990s TV action game-show Gladiators to earn the title of ‘Gladiator’ herself. Blaze depicts the artist as a painted character with the power to blend into her own artwork, and ‘= x +’ borrows this concept, hinting at the vibrancy of human form.
