Alicja Biala’s outdoor artwork ‘Merseyside Totemy’ will be deinstalled week commencing 19 February 2024 before undergoing an exciting transformation.
One of the totems will be made into useful objects that can be used by the local schools involved in the project for years to come. The other two will be gifted to the schools for display. Each of the schools is based in an area at risk from rising sea levels caused by climate change – Liverpool City Centre (Studio School), Formby (Formby High School) and Birkenhead (Wirral Hospital School). Watch this space for the results!
Elsewhere, Chit-Chat Climate Pack, a free game inspired by Merseyside Totemy and created in collaboration with local school children, aims to get us all talking about the world we live in and our role in the changing climate. The game includes questions for players to answer about their feelings on climate change, facts about our changing environment and potential actions children can commit to. You can download Chit-Chat Climate Pack here.
With thanks to Liverpool BID Company, ARUP and Castle Fine Arts Foundry for their support on this project.
